Venkataramanaswami Govindaaaa GOVINDA

A visit to a temple is something i have detested all my life.
More than one reasons for that.
From the time i remember having the mind to decide on things, i have always some how doubted the presence of god
I think that everything that exists can be answered by science, and if it cant be yet, in a matter of time will be
I also beleive firmly that we become hindu, chirstian, muslim etc, not by choice but by force, because from the begining of our lives, as kids we are thought at home what god to follow, what rules to follow and what customs to follow
And we are so bound by the rules the elders lay on us that we dont have a choice but to follow them

That gives me a good enough reason not to visit the temple....
I also hate the concept of offering money to a temple.... I feel that this money is always misused.

Recently i happen to visit this saibaba temple close to where i stay
Not that i was forced into it, just that my cousins were going there and since i had nothing better to do, i thought i might as well go and pay a visit
It was a thursday evening which is supposed to be auspisious for the followers of saibaba

The place was jampacked.... full to the brim and overflowing....
The whole road in front of this place is in a mess... cars honking, trying to get past, people going haywire, roadside vendors making the best of the crowd to sell a few flowers of photographs of the lord
I dont understand why people go to a temple...
I have heard some of them say they get peace of mind and shit like that...
Well i dont see what their definition of peace of mind or religion or god is...
The whole point for the public is to get there and see god or whatever and get the "Prasadam"
And they are ready to do this at any cost.... They dont even mind abusing the people around just to get there
I wonder what they get out of all this

Well.. even i don't understand why would ppl want to visit temples to get peace of mind. If the real intention is just peace-of-mind.. they have many other options..

I have also seen the thursday-mad-crowd near that Sai-baba temple. Those days I try not to go near any of those roads for the fear of the traffic.

well miss jha... is that the whole point of life... or atleast the state of mind you should go to a temple with... to check out pretty girls....

If thats what i want to do, ill prolly go to fourm or mgs on any day... i can check out a lot of pretty chicks...

my question is where has all the respect and esteem related to a temple gone

Man goin to temples is for people who believe in a form for god. Actually in one of the great temples it was written "realize formless god through form".
Reg the money being misused, it ultimately lands in someone's stomach...so if that person is happy because of you, be happy. Otherwise also be happy :D

hey mr annonymous... by hiding your identity i hope you are not taking the form of god

well that apart, i have totally no hasseles in people looking at god in any form....
my point of contention is that the whole scantity is lost in the temples these days
have you not seen temples where people spit around??
if god exists, in temples atleast, he/she/it demands respect which is lacking

that is not the point man... there is no way that my faith will come back... as in no coming back and all.... what i am talking about is the scene in most temples.... may be your chinmaya temple may be and exception

God is not hidden anywhere...only your eyes are not open thats all. So I am not taking God's form :-D

Regarding the cleanliness, I agree that this is the case in most of the temples. But it maybe that people are so much immersed in devotion (Bhakti ka ras pee liya) that they no longer care for cleanliness ! Its just like when you're totally drunk (tipsy) you dont care about the surroundings as long as your thoughts are there !

i am amused that you can equate the state of a mind under intoxicatino dude to physical substances to that on spiritual happenings. anyway if that being the case, every one in the temple should not care for the surroundings... then why the hell do they want to bloody touch the feet of god.... sorry , the idol.... and all kinds of crappy things which is totally against the rules as you can put it of being in "that" state

If you have observed these temples lately, they seem no less than business offices!!! I too have a problem shelling out money for God man!! I mean seriously, he is way to rich than I am & so I have a pact with the God that I go to the temple only for the Prasada!!Go to the temple, stand in the line for the Prasada get it, YAMMMM it & get back... works for me, to God, & all else peaceful at it's best.
